This cohort of Australia’s leading wig stylists and makers are setting the standard for innovative and professional wig workers. Our highly experienced creative team will provide the training and support you need for a dynamic career in such industries as television, film, theatre, fashion, exhibitions, and opera. With our courses you will gain experience in all aspects of designing, making, styling, fitting and maintenance. An advanced module ‘trains the trainers’, providing the skills that will enable you to further rise in the profession.
Founder
Stewart Graham
One of Australia’s leading professionals, with over 55 years’ experience in all aspects of historical and contemporary wig making and styling. Stewart’s work has featured in exhibitions including The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk, National Gallery of Victoria, 2014 and Grand Palais, Paris, 2015. He has extensive experience in the film industry, working on both Hollywood and Australian big-budget productions. (with Pamela Stephenson in the 70’s, to the Elvis movie in 2021, and more fashion shows that you can poke a wig comb at).

Our Courses
Wig styling is a specific area of hairdressing, which requires specialist knowledge, including how to make, fit and style a wig for stage and screen. Our professional instructors teach you how to create historical and contemporary styles, and how to bring your creative ideas to life. With no current training courses in Australia in wig design and styling, The Wig Academy is setting the standard with a complete curriculum that will help you into a career in theatre, film and stage.
Course Overview
The TWA Introductory training program focuses on providing you all the necessary background knowledge and instruction in Wig Setting and Styling. Coupled with hands-on training in the practical skills from our highly experienced instructor who is one of Australia’s most experienced artisan.
You’ll gain an understanding of the current industry standards and needs, and be exposed to the practical skills needed to be a valued and effective operator in the industry. You’ll learn the secrets of the trade for theatre, film, television and fashion; whilst learning to be communicator within a team environment.
What’s in our Course:
- Wig knowledge (materials, manufacturing, design, measurements, variable lace work)
- Fitting, Foundations, Blocking
- Washing and Conditioning
- Setting with steam and conventional
- Maintenance for wigs and lace
- Styling through ages
- Fitting on live model ready for film
Assessment and Outcomes
Assessment will be 100 % practical in nature and focus on tasks set by the instructor that have been covered during the training phase.
On successful completion of the assessment tasks you will be awarded with our TWA Industry Recognised Certificate of Endorsement for TWA Introductory Wigology.
